Travelocity has been offering opaque pricing for over a year now, and in that time
has streamlined and improved their product into something which compliments their brand. The management has given
enough information for those who are so disposed to determine to a high degree of accuracy the hotel that they
are booking into.
Here's an example of a booking I made for the beginning of June 2011, in Orlando. I was interested in their $61 offer for a 4 star hotel in the idrive area. So in the
area tab, I selected just hotels in the International drive area, and just 4stars or better. This reduced the number of hotels substantially, and knowing that the discount was only
upto 55%, made the option just two hotels (upto a price of $135), however neighther of these were a good match. Going through the rest of the hotels, brought me to the Rosen Shingle Creek,
which would have to be discounted by 75% to be the topsecret hotel. I really didn't mind which hotel I got for $61 so I went ahead and booked it and to my surprise it was the Rosen !!
